Planning a trip to Disney World is not as simple as booking a hotel and flights and calling it a day. Honestly, planning a Disney trip is like a puzzle, with so many things to think about.
This rings true, especially if you are a parent!
One of the things you want to make sure you are prepared for as a mom before starting your Disney vacation is the “mom essentials”.
These are the things that are going to make your life so much easier, which we know can be a lifesaver when you have your kids in tow.
So, before you head off to the most magical place on earth, being well-prepared can make all the difference. As moms, we know that having everything in place helps ensure a smooth and enjoyable vacation.
To help you get ready, I’ve put together a comprehensive checklist of essential items to pack!
You’ll get all the important details you need, so you don’t have to worry about missing a thing!

Packing Essentials for Mom
Okay, below, I’m going to go through all of the things you should make sure you have when you start packing for your upcoming trip.
That way, once you are at the parks, you can just relax instead of feeling unprepared and scrambling to find certain items you forgot to pack.
Let’s get into it!
What Clothes to Wear
First up, you’ll want comfortable clothes. Comfort is key here.
Depending on the time of year, you’re clothes will vary.
From mid-fall to mid-spring, I would pack lots of layers. It’s typically in the 70s or 80s, but can drop a lot at night. Mornings are also cold, so having the extra layers is nice.
For warmer months, lightweight, breathable fabrics are your best friend, especially during those hot Central Florida days.
A light jacket or sweatshirt is essential for early mornings and evenings, so make sure to have something with you when you head to the parks.
You’ll want to pack plenty of Disney t-shirts and comfortable shorts or pants. Adding a few Disney-themed pieces can also make your trip more fun!
A cute Mickey Mouse shirt for the kids or a pair of Disney character socks can add a bit of magic to your everyday wear. There are lots of great options for yourself and the kids on Amazon!
Footwear
You’ll be doing a ton of walking, so good shoes are a must. Supportive walking shoes will keep your feet happy as you explore the Disney theme parks.
- Water shoes for water parks
- Tevas
- Comfy athletic shoes
Also, consider packing a pair of sandals for water rides or if you plan to relax at your Disney resort pool.
If you plan to go to the water parks, you might want to pack some aqua socks. The cement can get hot!
Comfort is absolutely crucial because you’ll be walking A LOT.
I learned the hard way that fashion shoes at the parks will have your dogs barking and you feeling miserable.
The right footwear can make a huge difference! I personally like Teva’s and Birkenstocks for sandals or a comfy pair of shoes like On Cloud or Hoka’s.
INSIDER TIP: Break in your shoes before the trip to avoid blisters.
Weather-Appropriate Gear
- Ponchos
- Sunscreen
Florida weather can be unpredictable. Hot days, sudden rain showers – you’ll need to be prepared for it all. Rain is less likely in the cooler months, but it rains a lot during the summer.
Also, it’s sunny, so always pack sunscreen and a hat to protect you and your kids from the sun. For my kiddo, I love the BOB sunscreen powder. It’s so much easier than applying lotion.
A rain jacket or poncho is also a good idea for those unexpected showers. Investing in a good pair of rain ponchos can save you a lot of trouble and keep you dry while still allowing you to enjoy the fun.
Health and Safety Must-Haves
Here are some essentials:
- Advil
- Water bottles
- Hand sanitizer
- Band-aids
First Aid Kit
Having a basic first aid kit on hand is nice to have. If you don’t want to pack one, I would pack the basics like band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and any personal medications you or your family might need.
The rest you can get behind the counter at most Disney stores, at the first aid centers, or even the baby centers. Get Disney-themed band-aids for some added fun.
For those with specific health needs, pack any necessary prescriptions and over-the-counter medications. It’s always better to be prepared for the unexpected!
Hydration
- Filtered water bottle
- Electrolyte packets
Staying hydrated is key during your Disney World vacation. Reusable water bottles are a great way to keep everyone hydrated while minimizing the need to buy expensive drinks in the park. There are refillable stations all around the parks, so not only will you be saving money, but you’ll be hydrated.
Also, electrolyte packets are a must, especially if you’re spending long hours in the sun. Remember, keeping hydrated helps everyone stay energized and happy!
I always pack my Brita-filtered water bottle because Florida water isn’t exactly the tastiest.
Sanitation Supplies
Clean hands are a must, so pack plenty of hand sanitizer and wet wipes. You’ll find these especially useful for quick clean-ups before meals or after a fun day at the parks.
- Hand sanitizer
- Wet Ones
Keeping your hands clean helps prevent the spread of germs and keeps everyone feeling their best. I either get Touchland or buy a cute hand sanitizer in the parks and clip it to my stroller or fanny pack for easy access.
Additional Essentials for Disney Parks
These items are meant to keep your family comfortable and stress-free. Here’s a list of additional essentials that every mom should consider packing:
- Power Packs: Keeping your phones and tablets charged is crucial, especially when you’re relying on the My Disney Experience app or need to snap that perfect family photo with a Disney character. A good power pack ensures your phone stays powered up all day, so you never miss a magical moment.
- Stall Mates: If you’re still in the stage where you need wipes for your kiddos, Stall Mates are a convenient and essential item. These compact, flushable wipes are perfect for quick cleanups and ensuring everyone stays fresh throughout the day.
- Stroller Fan: The Florida heat can be intense, and if you have younger kids who spend a lot of time in the stroller, a stroller fan is a must-have. It keeps your little one cool and comfortable, making it easier to enjoy your day without worrying about overheating.
- Neck Fans: For the entire family, neck fans are a game changer. They provide a personal cooling system that’s portable and easy to wear. These fans are especially handy during those long waits for rides or while strolling through the park on a hot day.
- Airtags + Holders: If you’re bringing a stroller, bags, or other personal items into the parks, Airtags with holders are a smart addition. These tiny devices can help you track your belongings if they get misplaced, giving you peace of mind in the hustle and bustle of the Disney theme parks. I even put one on my son’s shoe for ease of mind.
- Sunglasses or Hats: Protecting yourself and your family from the sun is essential. Sunglasses or wide-brimmed hats help shield your eyes and face from the harsh rays, making it easier to enjoy the bright and sunny days without discomfort. Plus, they add a bit of style to your Disney attire!
Having these additional essentials packed and ready will make sure that you’re prepared for anything the day might throw at you.
Entertainment for Kids
Keeping young kids entertained during flights and also away from the souvenirs at the parks is another hurdle. But I’ve got you covered.
- Bubble wands
- Sticker books
- Tablet with headphones
For instance, a kid-favorite souvenir staple at the parks is bubble wands. They’re a hit, but bubble wands can run up to $30 at Disney. What you can do instead is go to Amazon or Target and get a Disney-themed bubble wand for half the price.
Your kids will have just as much fun with the $15 one as they would with the $30 one.
Pack a variety of items that are easy to carry and won’t take up too much space in your park bag. Dollar store finds like small puzzles, coloring books, and sticker sets can provide endless entertainment without costing a ton of money.

Tablets with headphones are another great option. Load them up with movies, educational apps, and games that your kids love. Just make sure to bring a portable charger or an extra cell phone battery to keep the devices running throughout the day.
Snacks on the Go
Healthy snacks are perfect for keeping your family energized during a Walt Disney World vacation, but prices can add up quickly. Pre-packaged snacks like granola bars, nuts, and dried fruit are convenient and easy to carry.
Fresh fruits and vegetables, like apple slices and baby carrots, are also great options that you can easily pack in your park bag.
I highly recommend placing a grocery order to be delivered on your arrival day. You’ll want to check my complete guide on grocery delivery, but here are some of my top items for every trip:
- Milk (and creamer if you drink coffee)
- Bottled water
- Yogurt packets
- Grab-n-go fruit and veggies like carrots, apples, and bananas
- Diapers if you have a little one
- Crackers or an easy snack that won’t go bad in the heat.
Packing Essentials
One last thing you’ll want to do is get yourself some packing cubes STAT!
Staying organized can make your Disney World trip much smoother. Packing cubes and organizers are essential items that can help you keep everything in its place.
Use separate bags for different items, like clothes, toiletries, and snacks. Clear pouches are also a great way to keep small items easily accessible.
I also like to organize each cube by day.
So, for instance, Magic Kingdom day will be full of all of our outfits in one cute. That way, you can just grab it and dress!
I personally like the Vekan brand. They are sturdy and the ones I got in 2016 are still going strong.
