History of the Aerophile Balloon
The Aerophile balloon was custom-built by a Paris-based company called Aérophile S.A. and opened at Disney Springs in 2009. As you can imagine, it quickly became a signature attraction on the west side of Disney Springs and still remains super popular today!
Why a balloon, you ask?
Well, Disney wanted to offer something unique, a sky-high experience that would allow guests to enjoy the beauty of the Walt Disney World Resort from a new perspective. and let’s face it…you can’t get a view like that anywhere else at Disney!
It’s a must-do for many first-time visitors and even a fun repeat for frequenters.

Fun Facts About The Disney Springs Balloon
Now, let’s get technical and into some facts. I’ll keep it fun, though, I promise 😉
Here are some fun facts about the Aerophile balloon at Disney Springs:
- The Aerophile balloon is the world’s largest tethered helium balloon.
- Because it’s tethered, it only moves up and down, not left and right. This is definitely a perk for those who are a bit nervous about trying it out or scared of heights. I’m one of those people, and I personally appreciated that it didn’t sway. It helped calm my nerves quite a bit and be able to enjoy the view.
- The balloon is 72 feet in diameter and can hold up to 29 people and one pilot.
- On a clear day, the balloon offers panoramic views of up to 10 miles!
- You can see Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and the Orlando Eye all from the balloon.
- The balloon is filled with 210,000 cubic feet of helium and can reach heights of up to 400 feet.
- The balloon’s basket can hold up to 30 guests or a wedding ceremony with a spectacular backdrop. Such a cool wedding picture idea, right!?
- Speaking of wedding parties, you can actually book the Aerophile Balloon for special events. So think proposals, birthday celebrations, wedding party pictures, etc.
- It’s filled with 210,000 cubic feet of helium—that’s a lot!
What You Need to Know Before Visiting
Are you thinking about taking a ride? Here’s what you need to know.
- The balloon is operated by an aérophile-certified pilot and ONLY flies in perfect weather conditions. It doesn’t fly during storms or when winds are over 22 miles per hour. This is just to make sure that you and your family are safe, even on a windy day.
- The ticket process is straightforward and available right at the site, but I’d suggest planning plenty of time for this adventure, especially during peak hours.
- Many visitors have shared that sunrise or sunset is the best time to ride for those mesmerizing views, so definitely consider timing your visit accordingly
- The balloon ride lasts about 8 minutes. In my opinion, it’s the perfect amount of time to be able to enjoy yourself.
- It’s obviously a panoramic view up there, and guests can walk around the basket to see the views from all sides.
- Tickets are typically around $29.99 plus tax for adults and $24.99 for kids between the ages of 3 and 9.
- There is no height requirement or age limit, BUT riders have to be at least 12 years old to ride alone. Kids under 12 must be with an adult.
