If there’s one thing we can all agree upon, it’s that Disney was cranking out some serious classics back in the 90s. One movie that kids still love to this day is Disney’s The Little Mermaid. It’s even been made into a live-action movie!
What better way to bring a piece of that magic into your home than with a fun, simple DIY project inspired by the mermaid princess herself?

This craft is not only easy and enjoyable but also a great activity for moms and kids to bond over their love for Disney characters.
How to Make a Papercraft Ariel-Inspired Bookmark
Let’s get right into how to make these cute Ariel bookmarks! All of the steps are very straightforward and easy for your young ones to do.
You’ll want to grab your tracing template here.
List of Supplies:
- Colored craft papers
- Pencil – to trace the template
- Craft glue
- Sharpie or gel pen
- A pair of scissors
- Cardstock paper (preferably heavy cardstock)
Instructions
Select colored craft papers for the Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian figures. Trace the patterns on the selected craft papers using a pencil and cut them out neatly using a pair of scissors. Use a sharpie to fill the eye base cutouts.
Glue the head cutout near the top part of the hair base cutout.
Glue the fringe/bangs cutout on the top side of the head cutout.
Glue the eye cutouts on the head cutout and use Sharpies to draw the nose, mouth, and blushes.
Glue the waist part along the top side of the base. Glue the top cutout on the top body part.
Use a sharpie to trace scalloped textures on the lower-part/base.
Glue the tail fin on the narrow tip of the lower-part/base
Glue the head pattern on the top side of the upper body part.
Glue the lower-body pattern to the bottom side of the upper body pattern. Apply glue on the top part of the arm cutouts and attach it to the upper body part from the backside.
Similarly, glue the other arm.
Prepare the Flounder figure patterns. Join the patterns using glue to complete the paper figure.
Use a sharpie to draw the rest of the small details.
Prepare the Sebastian figure cutouts. Use glue to join the patterns and complete the figure.
Use a sharpie to draw the rest of the small details.
Cut out cardstock strips and attach the papercraft figures on them to use the papercraft Ariel, Flounder, and Sebastian crafts as bookmarks or puppets.
How to Incorporate Educational Elements
While crafting these Ariel bookmarks, take the opportunity to go deeper into the story’s themes with your kids.
Some ideas for you to discuss include Ariel’s curiosity, her dreams, and the lessons she learns throughout her adventures.
